If you choose to show and breed Welsh Terriers, you will become a custodian of this very human-oriented and loving, but at times very challenging, breed.
First and foremost, do not get ‘in it’ to make money. If you proceed ethically, you will be prepared to take back any of your puppies that don’t work out in their homes. You will work with people who may disappoint you. Only a few will be great ones, many more may finish, but there will be others with health issues or who are not as attractive. But always: the best interest of your dogs must be served.
You are responsible for each puppy you bring into the world. When you breed a litter, you are obligated to stand behind every single puppy, and some will have problems. If you are unable or unwilling to take on this responsibility, please follow another road.
If we were to offer any advice to a beginner, it would be to start out with the very best bitch you can find. Look at her objectively. Try not to become “kennel blind”. Learn, read, observe. Be very patient, and prepare to suffer some heart breaking as well as some exhilarating experiences along the way.
